Your First Visit
On your first visit you will normally enter via the main entrance on Low street although we have a rear entrance via the car park at the rear of the practice which is more suitable for disabled access. We also have a ramp which can be used to assist in wheelchair access.
You will be greeted by one of our reception staff who will ask you to fill in a welcome form to record your personal details and a confidential medical history including any medication you may be taking. We are hoping to give text reminders of appointments in the near future so if you could record a mobile phone number as it would be very useful. All details are strictly confidential and no information is given out to anyone without your permission. At Elmet Dental Care we have a strict confidentiality policy in which staff are trained regularly.
You will then be invited in to the surgery to see the dentist who will check your whole mouth. Dentists check teeth and existing fillings and crowns for any signs of disease or breakages. They will check your gums for signs of gum disease, your soft tissues such as tongue and cheeks for early signs of oral cancers and they will check the way your teeth bite together. Some small x-ray films may also be taken to check underneath fillings and in between teeth for signs of decay plus any problems in your bones supporting the teeth.
Any findings will be discussed with you and a full written quotation will be given before we embark on any treatment for you. An appointment will then be made at a future date at your convenience for any treatment. once treatment is completed we will endeavour to send out a recall appointment at an appropriate interval for you either six months or a year later.
